Yorktown Christmas Market to be Held Saturday
The seventh annual Yorktown Christmas Market on Main Street will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The market features arts and crafts vendors, musical entertainment, classic cars, demonstrations from chefs and more. Several historic buildings and museums—including the Custom House, the Yorktown Victory Center, the Yorktown Battlefield, the York County Historical Museum, the Gallery at York Hall and the Grace Episcopal Church—will be open and decorated.
The Fifes and Drums of Yorktown will perform, and there will be an appearance by Santa Claus from 10 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 2 p.m. He will also appear at Riverwalk Landing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Other performers include the SantaBones Trombone Quartet and acoustical guitarist Chris Basford.
Members of the First Regiment of the Virginia Volunteers of the North-South Skirmish Association will give a live display of Civil War-era artillery from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the corner of Main and Church Streets. The Civil War Belles of Dixie will walk around the market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., dressed in period costumes. The York Privateers will feature interactive programs from sailors in the 1700s.
The Peninsula Model Train Club will have a display in the lower level of York Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Classic European cars will be on display along Main Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free transportation to the market is available, with the Yorktown trolley running its normal route. All public parking areas will be open, and handicapped parking is available on the lower level of the Riverwalk Landing parking terrace, at York Hall and at the National Park Service Visitor Center.

Historic Yorktown Hosting Holiday Events Friday Through Sunday
In addition to the Christmas Market, Historic Yorktown will host a Christmas tree lighting, the Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade and a cookies with Santa event.
The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony begins Friday at the Yorktown Victory Monument from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. The Mt. Vernon Mustang Chorus will play seasonal selections. The Fifes and Drums of Yorktown will also perform. The Town Crier and the Fifes and Drums will then depart from the monument at 7:30 p.m. and proceed down Historic Main Street to Ballard Street, and then down to the Riverwalk Landing where the official tree lighting ceremony will be held.
The lighting ceremony will include holiday music by the U.S. Fleet Forces Band Brass Quartet at 7 p.m. and a visit from Santa Claus until 8:30 p.m. The free event is sponsored by the York County Historical Committee.
The Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade will take place Saturday starting at 6 p.m. with complimentary hot cider from Seaford’s Boy Scout Troop 123. The Yorktown Chorale and The Fifes and Drums of Yorktown will perform at a beach bonfire while awaiting the parade of lights.
The parade judging starts at 7 p.m. Families are encouraged to pack flashlights to assist in traveling through the town at night. The free event is sponsored by the Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade Committee and the Wormley Creek Marina.
Families can enjoy cookies with Santa from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Gallery at York Hall. Parents are encouraged to bring cameras. Artwork on display at the gallery will be for sale, and refreshments will be served.
Public parking will be available at Riverwalk Landing Parking Terrace, the County Administration Building and Courts and Offices parking lots on Ballard Street. Parking is also available at York Hall (except on Friday night.)

York County Libraries to Feature Training Webinar for Downloadable Audio Books
Recorded Books will host a webinar for York County library members at 3 p.m. Tuesday to demonstrate the library’s OneClickdigital audiobook service.
The 45-minute program will include a complete demonstration of the service, information on creating an account and installing OneClickdigital software, information on searching the system for content, information on how to download and transfer audiobooks to devices and how to manage downloadable audiobook checkouts. The webinar is free and open to all library members.

Watermen’s Museum to Host Oyster Roast Saturday
The Watermen’s Museum will host an Oyster Roast from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Oysters, clam fritters, clam chowder and a variety of beverages will be served. Tickets are required and can be purchased by calling 887-2641.
Botanical Artist Linda Miller to Showcase Art at Gallery at York Hall Saturday

York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Deputy Receives Award from Fraternal Order of Police
York-Poquoson Deputy Sheriff Christopher Godbout has been named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Fraternal Order of Police.
According to a press release from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, Godbout was praised for apprehending a suspect from an August 3 armed robbery of the Credit Union Service Center at 1600 George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17). Godbout responded to the call and observed a white male matching the general description of the suspect walking near Coventry Boulevard and Lilburne Way. Godbout exited his patrol car and pursued the suspect on foot. The suspect began to take money from his pants pockets and throw it over the fence of a property on Amelia Court. Godbout caught the suspect and arrested him, recovering all of the money that was taken in the robbery.
