WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg voters will have the opportunity to learn from the new candidates running for Williamsburg City Council during a Town Hall event slated for Thursday, Oct. 3.

The Town Hall will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Library Auditorium.

Members of the community will be able to learn where candidates Lindsay Barna and Ayanna Williams stand on community issues.

The interview panel will include past City Council member Ted Maslin, WYDaily Managing Editor Chris Six, and William & Mary Flat Hat News Editor Peerawut Ruangsawasdi.

Questions will also be encouraged from the audience.

According to organizers, the candidates will be asked to respond to questions as if they are actual City Council members, both as individuals and in group discussions. Audience feedback on many of the questions will be solicited throughout the event.

Along with invited local media, Lafayette High School Journalism students will cover this event. WJCC students from Berkeley Middle School will serve as timekeepers and students from Boy Scout Troop 103 will help collect question cards and count raised hands for audience voting.

League of Women Voters, YJCW NAACP Hold Meet The Candidates Forum

The League of Women Voters (LWV) and the York-James City-Williamsburg NAACP held a meet the candidates event for Williamsburg City Council on Sept. 18 at the Williamsburg Regional Library.

The event featured all five Williamsburg City Council candidates, including incumbants Pat Dent and Barbara Ramsey, and was moderated by Michael J. Fox, Senior Assistant to the President and Secretary to the Board of Visitors at William & Mary.

“The candidates were all congenial and very responsive to questions. We believe the audience was pleased to be able to see the candidates in person and to hear first-hand discussion of the issues facing Williamsburg,” said Denise Koch, Co-chair of the LWV of the Williamsburg Area. “Informed voters make good decisions for their community and we believe last night’s forum helped Williamsburg voters get a good picture of all the candidates for city council.”
