WILLIAMSBURG — The League of Women Voters and the York-James City-Williamsburg NAACP are sponsoring a candidates’ forum on Wednesday, Sept. 18 to help voters get to know the candidates in the Nov. 7 election for Williamsburg City Council.

Three seats are up for election. The candidates, who run without party affiliation, include Lindsay Barna, current Vice Mayor William (Pat) Dent, Alexander Fraser Hudgins, current council member Barbara Lee Ramsey, and Ayanna Williams.

Michael J. Fox, Senior Assistant to the President and Secretary to the Board of Visitors at William & Mary, will moderate.

“Our organizations are pleased to offer this event for voters to meet the candidates,” said Denise Koch, co-chair of voter services for LWV.  “While voters hear from candidates through various media, there is nothing like seeing candidates in person and hearing them respond to questions.”

Attendees will be able to submit questions. According to the hosts, there will be a stack of note cards at the entrance to the auditorium for attendees to post their questions, and a moderator will ask the questions of the candidates.

“The expression is ‘all politics is local,’ and this is a great chance to learn about local concerns. We hope to see a large group of voters at these two events,” siad Williamsburg area league president Susan Bivins.

The event will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the Williamsburg Regional Library Auditorium. For more information about the League of Women Voters, visit its official website.
