Warhill High School Teacher Selected VFW Virginia High School Teacher of the Year

WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg-James City County Schools Teacher John G. King was named the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ 2023-24 Virginia High School Teacher of the Year.

King is a 22-year veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force until 2010, and he extended his service into the classroom for the last 13 years.

King was named Warhill High School Teacher of the Year in 2023, where he teaches social studies, including AP Human Geography and Advanced American Studies. As a veteran, he is dedicated to supporting military students and families and helped Warhill High School achieve its Purple Star School designation, a state program recognizing schools that go beyond to support military-connected students and their families.

“Our teachers make a difference in students’ education by sharing their passion for learning coupled with unique experiences related to classroom discussions. As a 22-year military veteran, we are fortunate to have John championing ways to serve members of our military and their families at Warhill High School. We are proud of John’s recognition as the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Virginia High School Teacher of the Year,” said Warhill High School Principal Michele Newcomb.
