Jamestown High School Social Studies Teacher Awarded Virginia Humanities Educator Fellowship

Alynn Parham, Jamestown High School social studies teacher, was honored as a 2024 Virginia Humanities Educator Fellow

WILLIAMSBURG– Alynn Parham, Jamestown High School social studies teacher, was honored as a 2024 Virginia Humanities Educator Fellow.

Williamsburg James City County School explained that Parham was honored among only seven K-12 teachers in Virginia selected to enhance resources available to other educators in the commonwealth teaching humanities.

Over the next nine months, Parham and the Class of 2024 Educator Fellows will meet, learn, and work together to create learning experiences that will be shared on the Virginia Humanities Education website, including the untold stories of diverse groups.

“We are excited about Alynn’s achievement. One of Williamsburg-James City County Schools educators will be designing authentic supplemental teaching resources while helping all learners connect to our country’s and Virginia’s history,” said Alaina Trott, supervisor for organizational development and equity.

“Teaching African American History has been a joy in my teaching career. This fellowship allows me access to a variety of historical resources and documents, enabling me to create enriching learning experiences related to my instructional units: Reconstruction and Jim Crow. Through these lessons, I aim to highlight the obstacles faced and the advocacy for reform shown by Black Americans in Virginia,” said Alynn Parham, Jamestown High School social studies teacher.

Resources on the Virginia Humanities Education website are free for students, educators, lifelong learners and caregivers.

Parham also cosponsors Jamestown High School’s African American History 365 Scholastic Bowl and serves as the school’s junior varsity Scholastic Bowl coach.
