YORKTOWN — Geoffrey Preudhomme, a Tabb High School graduate, recently took a job within the Biden administration.
The Preudhomme family moved to the area in 2004 when their father was stationed at Langley Air Force Base. Geoffrey attended Bethel Manor Elementary, Tabb Middle School, and Tabb High School.
A highlight for Preudhomme was his reign as both the homecoming king and prom king, noting he was the first non-white student to win those titles since the school opened in 1972.
Of his high school years, Preudhomme says, “One thing I can say about myself that I’m very proud of is that I never bullied or discriminated against anyone. I never did anything to make school or the classroom any more toxic than it already was. I was also voted class clown because I genuinely took pride in being one of the funniest kids in the classroom. I’m very proud of the legacy of kindness that I left behind at Tabb.”
Heavily involved in politics, Preudhomme has worked as an election volunteer for Obama For America, a fellow for Del. Christ Hurst (VA-12), a field organizer for David Horton for Mayor, an intern for Anthony Flaccavento (D-VA), the southwest Virginia field organizer for Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), a legislative assistant to Virginia Del. Sam Rasoul (VA-11), an inaugural justice fellow at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, an advisory board member for the Speak Truth to Power human rights education program, a press assistant to Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), and a legislative aide to Majority Leader Del. Charniele Herring (VA-4).
Preudhomme graduated from Radford University in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Art. He also was a member of the inaugural cohort at Virginia State University in the John Mercer Langston Institute for African American Political Leadership.
Officially sworn in on March 25, Preudhomme is working as a press assistant at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). He spends his days working on press releases, media advisories, social media assistance and attending media events.
“It has been a huge goal of mine to assist this administration in any way that I can. I’m behind the scenes and helping to boost good, nonpartisan efforts to help everybody in this country,” Preudhomme said.
While being in D.C. would lead many to think about their political aspirations, Preudhomme said he’s at the top of the game in his current job.
“My dream has come true and I’ve really hit my personal goal within government. My biggest goal politically has just been to simply be a presidential appointee for this administration and be a part of the executive branch. I have no desire for higher office or to run for office or to be a lawmaker in any way, I’m happy most where I am.”
