329 Shenandoah Student-Athletes Make 2023-24 ODAC All-Academic Team

The Shenandoah University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics set a new school record with 329 student-athletes on the 2023-24 Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team in selections released by the conference on July 11. Among the Hornets to achieve the honor were:

  • Mallory Holup, of Seaford
  • James Anderson, of Williamsburg
  • Peter Overton, of Toano
  • Gabriel Sanchez, of Yorktown
  • Isaac Tucker, of Williamsburg
  • Stephen Graham, of Yorktown
  • Jonathan Hammond, of Seaford
  • Jordan Rogers, of Yorktown
  • Audrey Atwell, of Yorktown

This year’s total is an increase of 33 student-athletes from SU’s previous best of 296 set during the 2022-23 academic year.

For student-athletes to qualify for the ODAC All-Academic Team, they must’ve had a 3.25 GPA or higher for the 2023-24 school year. Of the 329 SU student-athletes on the team, 256 posted a GPA of 3.50 or better, and 46 had a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Shenandoah University Announces Over 1,240 Graduates For 2023-24

Shenandoah University is pleased to announce the 1,247 graduates who received their degrees and/or certificates during the 2023-24 academic year. Those graduates included:

  • Jana Nelhuebel, of Williamsburg, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in University Interdisciplinary Studies.
  • Julia Hare, of Williamsburg, who earned a Master of Public Health.
  • Brandon Tolbert, of Yorktown, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
  • Miranda Toomy, of Yorktown, who earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Dawn Washington, of Williamsburg, who earned a Post-Graduate Certificate in Psychiatric Mental-Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Meagan Couch, of Williamsburg, who earned a Doctor of Pharmacy.
  • Stephen Graham, of Yorktown, who earned a Bachelor of Business Administration.
  • Jonathan Hammond, of Seaford, who earned a Bachelor of Business Administration.
  • Nolan Herndon, of Toano, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Esports.
  • Sky Hosler, of Williamsburg, who earned a Bachelor of Business Administration.
  • Caleb Richardson, of Williamsburg, who earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting and a Bachelor of Science in History.

Shenandoah had 206 August 2023 graduates, 353 December 2023 graduates, and 688 May 2024 graduates. Shenandoah’s 2024 University Commencement took place on May 18 in the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics and Events Center.

Zachary Smith Named to Hamilton College Spring 2024 Dean’s List

Zachary Smith of Williamsburg has been named to the Dean’s List at Hamilton College for the spring 2024 semester.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must have carried a course load of four or more graded credits throughout the semester and earned an average GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.

Smith, a rising senior majoring in biology, is a graduate of Marthas Vineyard Regional High School.

Andrew Creelman Receives Bachelor’s Degree From Frostburg State University

Andrew Creelman of Yorktown received a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Frostburg State University at its 164th commencement ceremonies in May, during which 520 undergraduate and graduate degrees were conferred.

Creelman was also named to the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement for the spring 2024 semester, with the distinction of a 4.0 grade point average.

To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and earn a cumulative semester grade point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

Rudrani Ghoshal named to Siena College Dean’s List for Spring 2024 Semester

Rudrani Ghoshal has been named to the Siena College Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 semester. Ghoshal is from Yorktown.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student’s grade point average for the semester must be between 3.5 and 3.89.

Founded in 1937, Siena College is a private, Catholic Franciscan, residential, liberal arts college located in Loudonville, New York.

Chenay Beamon Bowe Graduates from Emporia State University

Chenay Briana Beamon Bowe of Yorktown was one of over 550 students who graduated from Emporia State University in May 2024.

Beamon Bowe graduated with a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology .

Tanya Dupree Receives the Outstanding Research in Biology Award from Bridgewater College

Bridgewater College recognized approximately 50 outstanding students during the annual College Awards ceremony on Saturday, April 20.

Among the students receiving awards was Tanya Dupree, a biology major from Yorktown. Dupree received the Outstanding Research in Biology Award for conducting the best undergraduate research in biology, as determined by faculty.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Local Students Named to Mississippi State University’s Spring 2024 Dean’s List

Students named to the Deans’ List at Mississippi State must have achieved a grade-point average between 3.5 and 3.79, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C.

MSU’s spring 2024 Deans’ List includes 2,364 students who attained this honor, and the following local students are included:

Local Students Named to Mississippi State University’s Spring 2024 President’s List

Students on the President’s List at Mississippi State achieved a 3.80 or better grade-point average, based on a 4.0 scale, while completing at least 12 semester hours of coursework with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C.

MSU’s spring 2024 President’s List includes 4,137 students who attained this honor, and the following local students are included:

Local Students on Mississippi State University’s Spring 2024 Graduation List

Nearly 3,500 students are on the spring 2024 Graduation List at Mississippi State University. The following local students are included in this honor:

Reid Lampert of Williamsburg Named to Rhodes College’s Spring 2024 Dean’s List

Reid Lampert of Williamsburg was named to Rhodes College’s Spring 2024 Dean’s List.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 16 credits of academic work and achieve a semester grade point average of 3.70 or better. Those students who choose to take a course under the Pass/Fail option must have a minimum of 12 additional graded credits of work to be considered for this honor. Students who are enrolled in the Honors Program or independent Research and receive a grade of IP for that work will have their qualifying grade point average determined on all other graded work.

Founded in 1848, Rhodes College is a liberal arts and sciences college in Memphis.

Western Carolina University Spring 2024 Dean’s List

Western Carolina University congratulates more than 1,000 students named to the Spring 2024 Dean’s List. To qualify for this honor, students must achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher while completing 12 or more credit hours. The following local students made this semester Dean’s List:

Jennifer Wagner Named to Western Carolina University’s Spring 2024 Chancellor’s List

Western Carolina University congratulated Jennifer Wagner, of Yorktown, for being named to the Western Carolina University Spring 2024 Chancellor’s List.

Wagner was among more than 1,400 students to achieve this honor. To qualify for the Chancellor’s List, students must earn a GPA of 3.8 or higher while completing a minimum of 12 credit hours.

The westernmost institution in the University of North Carolina System, WCU’s main campus is in Cullowhee and WCU in Asheville is located at Biltmore Park.

Ethan Hall of Yorktown Makes Dean’s List at RIT

Ethan Hall of Yorktown was named to the Dean’s List at Rochester Institute of Technology for the spring semester of the 2023-24 academic year. Hall is in the game design and development program.

Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean’s List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of “Incomplete”, “D” or “F”; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

Bridget Palermo of Williamsburg Named to Muhlenberg College Spring 2024 Dean’s List

Bridget Palermo of Williamsburg was being named to the Muhlenberg College Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 semester.

Muhlenberg College students and Muhlenberg College School of Continuing Studies students with a term GPA of 3.50 or higher were recognized for this academic achievement.

Founded in 1848, Muhlenberg is a private, four-year residential, liberal arts college located in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

University of Rhode Island Celebrates More than 4,100 New Graduates During 2024 Commencement

The University of Rhode Island celebrated more than 4,100 of its newest alumni during the University’s 2024 Commencement. Nearly 4,000 undergraduate degrees and 800 graduate degrees were conveyed to students during the ceremonies which took place May 17-19.

Among them were:

  • Grant Horne of Williamsburg
  • Emily Zuniga of Williamsburg

Acclaimed actress Viola Davis, one of only 19 people to have won all four of the major American performing arts awards, delivered the keynote address and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters. Charles M. Royce and Deborah Goodrich Royce, noted for their considerable literary and investment success and important preservation work across Rhode Island, were awarded honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees during the ceremony.

Maxwell Sievenpiper of Yorktown Named to Spring Deans’ List at Nebraska

Maxwell Frederic Sievenpiper of Yorktown has been named to the Deans’ List at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the spring semester of the 2023-24 academic year.

Sievenpiper, a junior majoring in management and computer science, was named to the Dean’s Lists for the College of Business and College of Engineering.

More than 6,600 students at Nebraska were named to the Deans’ List for the spring semester.

Qualification for the Deans’ List varies among the eight undergraduate colleges and the Explore Center. Listed below are the minimum requirements for each entity and the name of its respective dean or director. All qualifying grade-point averages are based on a four-point scale and a minimum number of graded semester hours. Students can be on the Deans’ List for more than one college.

  • College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, 3.75; Dean Tiffany Heng-Moss.
  • College of Architecture, 3.75; Dean Kevin G. Van Den Wymelenberg.

James Seufzer Graduates from University of Hartford

The University of Hartford’s Spring 2024 Commencement was held at the XL Center in Hartford on May 12.

James Seufzer of Yorktown has received the degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Hartford’s The Hartt School.

James is one of 964 students who received graduate and undergraduate degrees this spring as part of the class of 2024.

The University of Hartford is located on a 350-acre campus in Hartford, Connecticut.

Yorktown’s Michael Matthews Among the 6,500 Students Who Graduated this Spring from the University of Iowa

In May, more than 6,500 University of Iowa undergraduate, graduate, and professional students received their degrees.

In May, more than 6,500 University of Iowa undergraduate, graduate, and professional students received their degrees, a group that included Michael Matthews of Yorktown.

Matthews was a student in the Graduate College whose academic program of study was Counselor Education. The degree awarded Matthews was a Master of Arts.
