Victoria O’Tool of Yorktown Among Edward K. Aldag Jr. Student Business Plan Competition Award Winners at The University of Alabama
The Alabama Entrepreneurship Institute at The University of Alabama recently held its annual Edward K. Aldag Jr. Student Business Plan Competition.
This year’s competition was hybrid with day one being virtual and day two in-person. Competitors uploaded 10-minute video presentations of their business plans that judges reviewed prior to the competition. On day one, judges held 15-minute Q&A sessions with participants. Afterwards, judges deliberated as to which ideas were the best and should move on to the next round. On day two, teams presented in person to a panel of judges.
Victoria O’Tool, a student at the Culverhouse College of Business from Yorktown, was part of a team that won third prize in the Grand Prize Group.
Rhiannon Hime Named to Dean’s List at Mount St. Mary’s University
Rhiannon Hime of Williamsburg is among the 557 students who earned Dean’s List honors for the Spring 2024 semester at Mount St. Mary’s University. An additional 156 students were named to the President’s List for earning a grade point average of 4.0.
Mount St. Mary’s University is a private, liberal arts, Catholic university in the Catoctin Mountains near historic Emmitsburg, Maryland, with a satellite campus in Frederick, Maryland’s second-largest city.
Winners Announced For Shenandoah University Esports Awards
Shenandoah University’s Esports program recently announced the recipients of the 2024 Shenandoah Esports Awards. Stephen Graham, of Yorktown, was among the seven individuals who received one of six awards during a ceremony on May 7.
Graham was named Player of the Year. This award is given to a player who has put in the utmost effort to excel and perform on their team while balancing the responsibilities of a student-athlete. This player is well-rounded as they also demonstrate the ability to act as a team player to motivate their team to perform at their best.
Two Hornets Earn All-ODAC Honors For Men’s Lacrosse
Stephen Graham, of Yorktown, was one of two Shenandoah University men’s lacrosse players to earn All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference honors in selections announced on May 7.
Graduate student Logan Clingerman and senior Stephen Graham both earned third-team All-ODAC accolades.
Graham started all 16 games he appeared in for the Hornets and was third on the team in goals (25) and led the team with 20 assists. His 45 points trailed only Clingerman’s 68 for the team lead. Against Virginia Wesleyan, an assist netted Graham his 100th career point. He finished his SU career with 64 goals, 51 assists, and 115 points.
The Hornets went 11-8 overall and 6-3 in the ODAC, eclipsing the 10-win mark for the first time in program history. The Hornets won their third straight ODAC tournament first-round game before falling to Roanoke in the quarterfinals.

Tyler Pope Graduates from Bob Jones University
Tyler Pope, a resident of Yorktown, was among over 650 students who graduated from Bob Jones University Friday, May 3.
Pope graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Esther Bain Named to President’s List at Bob Jones University
Esther Bain, a Sophomore Biblical Counseling major from Williamsburg, was among over 600 Bob Jones University students named to the Spring 2024 President’s List.
The President’s List recognizes students who earn a 3.75 or higher grade point average for the semester.
Located in Greenville, South Carolina, Bob Jones University provides a regionally accredited Christian liberal arts education.
SNHU Announces Winter 2024 Dean’s List
Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) congratulated the following area students on being named to the Winter 2024 Dean’s List. The winter terms run from January to May.
Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the Dean’s List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.

Local Students Named to Bridgewater College’s Spring 2024 Dean’s List
The Dean’s List for the 2024 spring semester at Bridgewater College has been announced by Dr. Jamie J. Frueh, associate provost. Approximately 560 students were named to the list.
Students on the Dean’s List have attained a 3.4 or better grade point average out of a possible 4.0.

Rashad Stepney of Yorktown, Virginia Completes Intensive Research Project
Rashad Stepney, a member of the class of 2025 majoring in Aerospace Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), was a member of a student team that recently completed an intense research project titled Designing a Regional Ecotourism Development Plan.
At WPI, all undergraduates are required to complete a research-driven, professional-level project that applies science and technology that addresses an important societal need or issue. About two-thirds of students complete a project at one of the university’s 50-plus off-campus project centers, which are located around the world. Belmont University Announces Spring 2024 Dean’s List Honorees
Belmont University recently released the Dean’s List for the spring 2024 semester. Approximately 44% of the University’s 7,338 undergraduate students qualified for the spring 2024 Dean’s List.
Dean’s List eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Madeline Knowles Graduates from University of Georgia
Madeline Grace Knowles was among the more than 8,000 candidates for graduation in the University of Georgia’s Class of 2024 who were celebrated during Commencement exercises May 10.
Knowles, of Williamsburg, was a candidate for a BBA Risk Management and Insurance.
Allison Schmitt, a decorated athlete and a University of Georgia alumna, delivered the spring undergraduate Commencement address. Jenna Jambeck, the 2024 SEC Professor of the Year and Georgia Athletic Association Distinguished Professor of Environmental Engineering at UGA, delivered the graduate Commencement address.
Anna Hohlrieder among Flagler College graduating Class of 2024
Flagler College celebrated the academic and personal accomplishments of more than 500 graduates in the Class of 2024 with a Commencement Ceremony at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday, May 5.
Anna Hohlrieder, from Seaford, was honored with a Bachelor’s degree in English.
