GLOUCESTER — The Third Annual Gloucester Day, to include a transatlantic live broadcast between Gloucester, Virginia; Gloucester Township, New Jersey; and Gloucester in southwest England, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7.

The live broadcast will begin at noon and can be viewed online on Gloucester County’s Facebook and YouTube pages, or in person inside the Gloucester Courthouse circle.

Before the live broadcast, beginning at 11 a.m., Gloucester, Virginia’s Historic Resources Supervisor Robert Kelly will provide in-person tours of the historic buildings inside the colonial court circle.

Those who attend will be provided guided tours, learning about the significance behind such buildings as The Clayton Building, Roane Building, Colonial Jail, Debtors Prison, Colonial Courthouse, and more, the county said, adding that the Gloucester Courthouse circle, with its surrounding businesses, remains much as it would have been found at an earlier date.

Those who attend the Gloucester Day activities in person will also have an opportunity to win one of several gift baskets filled with new Gloucester, Virginia swag and gifts from the Visitor’s Center, the county said.

“We are excited this year to have a live conversation to learn more about our counterparts to the north and overseas,” said Carol Steele, Gloucester, Virginia’s County Administrator. “We are also thrilled to open our historic buildings for this special tour where our residents and visitors may learn tidbits about the history behind these treasured structures that they never knew before.”

Gloucester Day is a part of the Gloucester Collaboration. The idea for the outreach came from an exchange where approximately a dozen representatives from Gloucester, Virginia had the opportunity to meet with Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, in 2018.

The exchange eventually turned into a more formal movement, called the Gloucester Collaboration.
