HAMPTON ROADS — The Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) announced it will perform free concerts at outdoor venues across Hampton Roads, including Williamsburg and Yorktown, as part of its Free Summer Concerts series.
The concert in Williamsburg is being held partnered with the City of Williamsburg and the College of William & Mary, with the Yorktown concert held in partnership with the Celebrate Yorktown Committee. Both performances will take place in August.
According to VSO, each concert program will be curated around a theme such as tunes from beloved animated films, a symphonic tribute to the Paris 2024 Summer Games, wedding music favorites, or music inspired by classic literature and cinema. For these performances, the orchestra will be joined by conductors Morihiko Nakahara, Todd Craven, Helen Martell, and Brandon Eldredge, it added.
Both local concerts will be themed Once Upon a Symphony. The Williamsburg concert will be held on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Matoaka Amphitheater, while the Yorktown concert will be held on Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Riverwalk Landing.
