WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg Regional Library will host its second ComicCon on Sept. 21.
The event will take place at the library and the Stryker Center, and include the city square for outdoor events, the library said.
“Last year we had a really good turnout and it brought people into the library who might not normally come to the library, particularly people in the teenage demographic,” said Allison Norfolk, Adult Servies Librarian with Williamsburg Regional Library.
The library said it had around 900 attendees to the event last year.
“People had an awesome time and we had a lot of great feedback, so we decided to do it again,” she added.
This year, the event will feature a cosplay contest, Taiko drumming, games, workshops, vendors, food, a sci-fi fantasy used book sale and face painting among other activities.
The main event will feature author Sarah Newland, author of “Extand: The Coelacanth Project.” Newland is a young adult fiction author and licensed veterinary technician based in coastal Virginia.
Her books revolve around the difficult transition into adulthood, conquering inner demons, and discovering powerful friendships, the library said. She hopes to promote a love for reading and brain-active living.
“We’ve got a lot of stuff going on simultaneously, so people should come prepared to be busy and have a great time,” said Norfolk.
The event is free to attend with no pre-registration required. For a full detailed list of events and vendors, visit the library’s official page.
