WILLIAMSBURG — Award-winning author Ellen Butler recently announced the release of her new novel, “Spectral Revelations: A Karina Cardinal Mystery,” a ghostly mystery set in Colonial Williamsburg.
The book will be launched at Williamsburg’s new bookstore, Turn the Page Bookshop, on Friday, Oct. 13, from 6-8 p.m. Paranormal author Allie Marie will interview Butler at 7:30 p.m., and the evening will include drinks, snacks, and door prizes.
“Spectral Revelations” is Butler’s thirteenth novel, and the sixth Karina Cardinal Mystery.
The newest installment finds Karina’s Aunt Vera has disappeared, fibbed to her employer about the reason for her absence, and even abandoned her beloved cat. But when Karina hauls her cookies from D.C. to historic Williamsburg to search Vera’s house, she finds nothing suspicious — except for a mischievous Civil War ghost who scares the bejeebers out of her and keeps trashing Vera’s office.
Soon Karina realizes his seemingly random ectoplasmic tantrums have a purpose — revealing key evidence. Something is definitely fishy, but the clues aren’t adding up. As the spirit’s visitations become more urgent, Karina must call in reinforcements for help.
“I’m looking forward to launching this ghost story at the new bookstore. The owner has shown an active interest in supporting local authors and hosting community literary events,” said Butler. “The shelves are filling up with merchandise, and he has signing authors booked every weekend until Christmas.”
A former public policy writer, Butler is also the author of “The Brass Compass” historical fiction series. She is a member of Sisters in Crime, Virginia Writer’s Club, and International Thriller Writers.
In addition to the book signing, Butler will also hold a a presentation at Williamsburg Regional Library on Nov. 5, 2-3 p.m., on the Top 10 art heists in history. Butler will discuss her new book and the history of art crimes. Attendance at the event is free.
