WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Winery will launch a new series of events called “A Classical Cabaret at Wessex Hundred” for May, featuring local musical organizations Opera in Williamsburg and the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra.
“[The main inspiration for the new series] in my opinion is opening up a new door here, and more exposure to people that are into different activities,” Jen Allen, Director of Retail Operations for the Williamsburg Winery, explained.
The first performance on May 1 will feature selected operatic arias by artists from Opera in Williamsburg. The group will be performing cabaret style, performing a few songs, then pausing to talk and mingle with guests.
The second performance will star performers from the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra on May 22. They will also be performing cabaret style, allowing guests to speak with the performers between pieces.
Pending the success of these performances, the winery is open to growing the event further.
The performances are free to the public as capacity allows. Guests who wish to order flights of wine are recommended to come early, as during the performance the winery will be switching to bar service for glasses or bottles of wine.
The performances will be held in The Williamsburg Winery’s redecorated Susan Constant Hall Tasting Room from 2-3:15 p.m.
“Come have a seat, get some wine, and enjoy,” Allen said.
