WILLIAMSBURG — Registration for the Snowy Owl 10 Mile is still open, with spots filling up fast for those who wish to participate in Jan. 8 event.
The race uses a combination of trails in York River State Park. Five miles of the course is a technical single track, about 3/4 of a mile on the road and the rest on dirt fire road trails. The course will feature rocky sections, a twisting single track, a boardwalk with beautiful views, and fast-fire roads, according to the UltraSignup website.
This race benefits AWARE (Alliance of Wild Animal Rehabilitators and Educators), and individuals from AWARE will be on-site with owls and educational information.
According to the UltraSignup page, there will be three aid stations on the course with water and light snacks. Hot coffee, cocoa, and snacks will be available at the finish.
All finishers will receive a wooden medal featuring the event logo, and all registered runners will receive a race logo, a winter hat, and free entry into the park.
Start time is 9 a.m. and the event organizer, Happy Cat Events, advises planning for cold temperatures. The race will take place snow or shine, uless weather conditions are dangerous. Should the event be canceled, referrals will be issued for the following year.
If spots are not completely filled, registration will close on its own on Jan. 6 at midnight.
