WILLIAMSBURG — The Chesapeake Bay Writers Group (CBW) heads into 2023 with a new vice president and a full slate of programming aimed at published and aspiring writers.
The Chesapeake Bay Writers are a chapter of the Virginia Writers Club.
The group announced that Richard D. Easton has been elected to the previously-vacant vice president position on the group’s Board of Directors. Easton has published articles about the origin of GPS in various space-related publications and holds master’s of liberal arts from the University of Chicago, according to a CBW press release. His father, Roger L. Easton, led the Space Applications Branch of the Naval Research Laboratory from the Vanguard satellite era to the early days of GPS development.
The Vice President is responsible for scheduling CBW’s programs. CBW kicked off a new year of programming with a presentation on Creating Audiobooks on Feb. 1.
Award-winning audiobook narrator and producer Scott Ellis, who has narrated over 60 audiobooks and coached several authors through the production or narration of their first audiobooks, described the process.
Scott Ellis Reads, his audiobook production company, was launched in 2019 and has a team of 15 people that work in narrating, editing, marketing, and managing the business.
Coffee Shop Conversations with Charles W. Sutherland continue on alternate Saturdays, including Feb. 11 and 25 at Column 15 in Williamsburg. On Mar. 19, CBW, in partnership with the Williamsburg Library, will hold a writers’ open mic at the Stryker Center from 1-3 p.m.
