WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center (WCAC) will soon kick off its 20th Annual High School Student Show, which runs from Jan. 11 through Feb. 10, featuring works from four of the area’s high schools.

The featured schools are Bruton, Jamestown, Lafayette and Warhill. According to a release from WCAC, the exhibit will be held in WCAC’s Main and Middle Galleries.

“The high school show is always an exciting event for us here at the Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center,” said Karen Schwartz, program chair. “There are so many talented students in this area and we are happy to have the opportunity to put their unique and creative artwork on display as part of our community outreach.”

Approximately 130 different pieces will be on display from students selected by the four high schools. The number of spots and pieces allotted to each school is decided based on general enrollment to the different schools.

The show is also sponsored by Ron and Patricia Rapoport, and will be judged for cash awards by local artist and teacher June Skalak, with three top awards, eight merit awards, a people’s choice award, and 12-15 honorable mentions awarded at a special reception for students and their guests on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.

There will also be a member-exclusive preview of the show on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 5:30 p.m.

WCAC will also be featuring new artwork from the 2022 Members’ Show winners in the Fireside Gallery, as well as new works in the Artisan Corner. WCAC is currently accepting applications for its first Member Co-Op show of 2023.

WCAC is located at 110 Westover Ave.; hours will resume as usual when the holiday break ends on Jan. 10 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. For additional information check out the official Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center website.
