WILLIAMSBURG — With Jack Frost nipping at the nose and playing on windshields, the winter season is fast approaching, and with it will come an all-new selection of artwork in the ongoing “Art at Wessex Hundred” exhibit at the Williamsburg Winery.
The theme for the new works to be featured in the exhibit is “Winter Romance,” a nod to the quiet of winter and the liveliness of the holiday season. Like previous phases of the exhibit, all the art is for sale. An added feature during December — “Holiday Small Works” — is a special selection of art sized and priced for gift-giving.
The “Art at Wessex” exhibit showcases the original work of over 30 local artists working in various media, including oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastels, fabric art, and collages. Patrons of the winery can enjoy the art while sipping a glass of wine in the newly redecorated tasting room.
“Winter Romance” is the third rotation of artwork in the year-long exhibit. Each rotation has focused on the seasonal beauty of the winery and its setting on the surrounding 300-acre farm, Wessex Hundred, but with “Winter Romance” and “Holiday Small Works,” the artists also take patrons beyond the vineyards to the larger Williamsburg community.
Like the previous exhibits, “Winter Romance” is organized and managed by The Art People (TAP) — arts community volunteers Cary Garnet and Mary and Jim McCormick. Reaching out to a network of artists within the Hampton Roads area, TAP invited more than 30 artists to participate.
This phase will run from Dec. 1 to Mar. 31. A public reception for “Winter Romance” and “Holiday Small Works” will be held on Dec. 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Tasting Room.
The free exhibit is open to the public seven days a week at the Williamsburg Winery’s Susan Constant Tasting Room. Check the Winery website for specific hours.
