VDOT’s Weekly Hampton Roads Lane Closures Report for March 24-30

HAMPTON ROADS — VDOT’s list of full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and single-lane closures at the bridge-tunnels the week of March 24-30.

VDOT was also warning of the possibility of up to three full closures in both directions at the HRBT overnight on March 26, adding motorists should expect major delays and use the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route. The backup date for this work will be Wednesday, March 27, it said.

Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.

Bridges and Tunnels

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64:  

  • Single-lane closures eastbound March 25 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Single-lane closures westbound March 26-27 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664: 

  • Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions March 24-28 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures southbound March 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Berkley Bridge, I-264:

  • Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions March 24 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge, Route 17:

HRBT Expansion Project: 

Elizabeth River Tunnels (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels): 

  • Information from Elizabeth River Tunnels for maintenance schedules and lane closures on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (U.S. 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).

I-64

I-64, Southside Widening, High Rise Bridge Expansion: 

I-64, Hampton: 

  • Full closure of the off-ramp from I-64 east to Rip Rap Road (exit 265C) March 24-25 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-64 in both directions from LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A) and the Hampton River Bridge March 25-29 from midnight to 4 a.m.
  • Full closure of the on-ramp to I-64 east from Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road March 27-28 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Long-term, continuous single-lane closure on I-64 in both directions, reducing travel lanes from three to two lanes between Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267) and LaSalle Avenue (exit 265A), with I-64 west traffic shifted to the I-64 east lanes. View the full traffic alert.

I-64, Norfolk: 

  • Long-term traffic shift toward the inside median on I-64 in both directions between Tidewater Drive and Little Creek Road (exit 276)
  • Long-term, continuous, single-lane closure on the I-64 west on-ramp to I-564 west
  • Long-term, shortened merge area at the northbound Tidewater Drive on-ramp to I-64 west. View the full traffic alert here.

I-64, Hampton Roads Express Lanes:  

Norfolk, Reversible Roadway: 

  • Full closure in both directions:
    • Consecutively from 8 p.m. on March 22 until 3 a.m. on March 25
    • March 25 from 8 p.m. to midnight
    • March 25-29 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    • Consecutively from 8 p.m. on March 29 until 7 p.m. on March 30
  • Full closure eastbound March 24-28 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Chesapeake/Norfolk/Virginia Beach: 

  • Express Lane closed eastbound between the I-264 and I-464 interchanges March 24-28 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Express Lane closed westbound between I-464 and the Twin Bridges March 24-28 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Other Notable Closures 

James City County: 

  • Brief, intermittent stoppages on Route 60 in both directions at Croaker Road March 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
