YORK COUNTY — Virginia State Police Search and Recovery Team divers, with the assistance of Chesapeake Police, Hampton Police, Suffolk Police and Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC), conducted exploratory dives in the waterways adjacent to the Colonial Parkway in York County Tuesday morning.
According to Virginia State Police (VSP), the dives were conducted due to ongoing construction along the parkway and to follow up on new information developed by investigators since the January announcement concerning the Isle of Wight County double homicide and a City of Hampton homicide from the 1980s.
No new evidence was recovered as a result of today’s dive efforts, according to police.
VSP noted state police, along with City of Hampton Police and the FBI Norfolk Field Office continue to follow up on investigative leads, particularly regarding new information that’s come to light since January.
Agencies and investigators continue to encourage anyone with information related to Alan Wilmer Sr., the crimes connected to him, or the Colonial Parkway homicides to come forward and contact the FBI by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI or submitting a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
Anyone with information can also reach out to the Virginia State Police by email at questions@vsp.virginia.gov or the City of Hampton Police via the Peninsula Crime Line. Anonymous tips are welcome, police said.
