HAYES — The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a homicide that took place in the early morning hours of Jan. 1 in Hayes has resulted in additional charges against the 15-year-old juvenile suspect.
A suspect was arrested on Jan. 2. According to a release from the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 4, after significant follow-up investigation and evidence analysis, Gloucester Sheriff’s investigators secured additional petitions against the suspect, resulting in charges being pressed against the individual including:
- Second Degree Murder
- Aggravated Malicious Wounding
- Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
- Shooting, Stabbing, etc., with Intent to Maim, Kill, etc. twice.
The juvenile appeared in Gloucester County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court on Jan. 5 for a detention hearing, officials said. At the conclusion of the hearing, the juvenile was ordered to remain detained in the Merrimac Center pending further court proceedings.
On Jan. 1, the Gloucester County Emergency Communications Center received a call at approximately 1:05 a.m. about a shooting in the 7800 Block of Guinea Road.
According to officials, deputies arrived to find a large gathering of people at a residence. An adult male was found dead at the scene outside the residence due to a gunshot wound. A second adult male was suffering from a gunshot wound but the injury was not life-threatening. He was transferred to Riverside Regional Medical Center for treatment
and later released.
