Body of Missing James City County Man Found Near Jamestown Island

JAMES CITY COUNTY — The body of a missing James City County man was found in the James River near Jamestown Island on Dec. 30.

The U.S. Coast Guard located the man around 9:30 a.m. after he was reported missing by family members at 3 p.m. on Dec. 29.

After he was reported missing, police located his vehicle off the Colonial Parkway near College Creek at 6 p.m. on the same day. His cell phone, car keys and other personal belongings were found nearby on the shoreline, according to press release from James City County Police Department (JCCPD).

Emergency officials with JCCPD, Coast Guard, National Park Service, Virginia State Police, Virginia Department of Wild Life Resources and Virginia Marine Police searched College Creek and immediate area. That search was suspended for the day around midnight and later resumed at 7 a.m. on Thursday (Dec. 30).

The body is being taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk. JCCPD says that no foul play is suspected.

Police have not yet released further information regarding the man’s identity. This is a developing story.
