YORK COUNTY — Virginia State Police (VSP) have released the name of the Norfolk man killed in the single car crash that happened at 3:41 a.m. at mile marker 244.2 on Interstate 64 (I-64) East near Merrimac Trail. Initial reports on the wreck indicated that it happened in James City County.
According to a VSP press release, Quentin L. Norman, 19, was driving the 2021 Mazda CX5 when he lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway, striking the mile marker sign. The vehicle then went into a ditch and rolled over onto its roof, and then was wedged between two trees. Norman was killed on impact.
Of the three passengers in the car, Amanuel Copeland, 19, also of Norfolk, and another unnamed male passenger were critically injured and transported to Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News.
A fourth passenger, Mostapha Elsayed Mostapa M Atwa, 24, was not injured in the wreck. However, police discovered he had outstanding warrants on file and was placed under arrest.
VSP found narcotics and five handguns at the scene, one of which was reported stolen in Norfolk.
The investigation is on-going and criminal charges are pending at this time.
