REGIONAL — The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va. (NWS Wakefield) has issued a flash flood watch ahead of today’s storm.
Throughout the day on Saturday, Aug. 7, low pressure will track northeast along a frontal boundary.
Heavy rainfall is expected to begin late morning to early afternoon and could linger through late evening. Amounts of 1-3 in. of rain are expected throughout the storm, however, localized amounts could be around 4-5 in. Urban areas may see flooding as a result of the rainfall.
There is a marginal risk of severe weather in effect. It could include isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon in southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina. Damaging wind gusts may occur with the possibility of tornadoes.
