REGIONAL — Following Tropical Storm Elsa, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield, Va. issued weather impact guidance on Friday, July 9 for the weekend of July 9-14, 2021.
NWS Wakefield states that weather conditions will continue to improve as Tropical Storm Elsa continues to move further away from the Hampton Roads area.
However, rivers across south and central Virginia are above what is considered a “flood stage” or will soon reach that level. Flooding is expected to remain throughout the weekend.
There is now a marginal risk of a severe thunderstorm this afternoon along with a cold front. The cold front is expected to move off the coast early Saturday (July 10) morning.
NWS Wakefield expects summer weather conditions to include heat and humidity to return next week with the possibility of isolated afternoon thunderstorms. However, there is no expectation of widespread rain throughout the next week.
