RICHMOND — William & Mary standout Hollis Mathis made history late in the fourth quarter during the Tribe’s 27-0 setback at No. 7/10 Richmond on Saturday, as he became just the second player in the history of college football to record 1,000 career yards passing, rushing and receiving.
Having already eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in passing and rushing yards, Mathis entered the contest with 955 receiving yards and reached the historic milestone with a 12-yard catch during the Tribe’s final drive.
Mathis finished the game with a team-high six receptions for 50 yards.
Despite the loss, W&M (7-5, 4-4) concludes its season with a winning record for the fourth consecutive year – marking the first time W&M has accomplished the feat since posting eight straight winning seasons from 1992-99.
Although W&M limited Richmond (10-2, 8-0) to just 69 passing yards, the Spiders outgained the Tribe on the ground, 238-64, en route to extending their winning streak to 10 games.
Senior running back Bronson Yoder concluded his remarkable career by moving into second on the program’s career rushing list (3,775), while kicker Josh McCormick set a single-season record for touchbacks (34).
Richmond running back Zach Palmer-Smith led UR with 129 rushing yards on 25 carries with a touchdown, while quarterback Camden Coleman rushed for 73 yards on 15 carries with two scores.
The game marked the final time W&M and UR will play as CAA opponents, as the Spiders will compete in the Patriot League next season.
