WILLIAMSBURG — A suspicious package reported near 600 Jamestown Road and the William & Mary campus Wednesday evening was determined not to be a threat, according to the City of Williamsburg.
Williamsburg Police and Fire departments responded to a call about a suspicious package at 5:38 p.m., according to the city. The William & Mary Police Department also responded.
Officials requested the assistance of the Newport News Bomb Squad and four buildings within 300 feet of the package were evacuated. Jamestown Road was also closed to traffic between Landrum Drive and Ukrop Way.
After an investigation, the package was deemed not a threat by 8:30 p.m., the city said.
The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) also responded.
