RICHMOND — After helping the eighth-ranked William & Mary football team secure the Capital Cup with a 37-26 victory at No. 11 Richmond, sophomore linebacker John Pius was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week.
The honor marks the second time this season he has garnered the award, while it is the fourth time this season a W&M player has earned the accolade.
Pius recorded a career-high 10 tackles, 2.0 TFL, a sack and two quarterback hurries, as he helped W&M limit UR to just 63 rushing yards.
One of the nation’s top players this season, Pius ranks third nationally in sacks (11.5) and fifth in TFL (19.0). Additionally, his sack total is just 0.5 shy of tying the single-season school record.
W&M will continue its quest for a National Championship as the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NCAA FCS Playoffs.
The Tribe will have a bye this week before hosting the winner of Gardner-Webb/Eastern Kentucky at Zable Stadium on Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.
