WILLIAMSBURG — Residents can rake loose leaves to the curb for free collection on select weeks between November and January, the City of Williamsburg announced this week.
According to a press release, the city will be divided into two collection routes — Red and Blue — with each route having five collection weeks starting the week of Nov. 7 for those on the Red Route and Nov. 14 for those on the Blue Route.
Collection on each route will be every other week.
Leaves must be raked to the curb or road edge, and not in the street or in a drainage way, by 7 a.m. of the first day of collection week. There will be only one collection per street during the collection week.
The city noted the following guidelines:
- Place leaf piles in an open area for easy vacuum truck access. Leaf piles behind vehicles, trees, or bushes cannot be picked up.
- Do not mix sticks or limbs into your leaf piles.
- In case of rain, crews will pick up on the route where they left off prior to the rain.
- Bagged leaves can be placed curbside to be collected with garbage on any garbage collection day. There is a 10-bag limit per household per collection day.

Christmas Trees
City crews will collect Christmas trees on Tuesday, Jan. 3 and Monday, Jan. 9, the city said. Trees must be placed on the street before 7 a.m. for collection with all decorations and lights removed.
