WILLIAMSBURG — The second-annual Grove Trotter 10K Bridge Run recorded a greater turnout and provided even more generous donations than the first year, according to Grove Christian Outreach Center.
This year’s race, which took place on Oct. 15, recorded more than 100 runners and the fundraiser raised over $16,000 for the local nonprofit that provides impoverished families in lower James City County with food, clothing, and financial assistance. The inaugural race, in 2021, brought in approximately 100 participants and raised $10,000 for the local nonprofit.
The 2022 Grove Trotter 10K Bridge Run is a Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix Event and was certified by USA Track & Field. The local fundraiser attracted participants from around the country, including runners from Iowa and Illinois.
While the race broke the inaugural year’s records, Grove Christian Outreach Center announced that it is currently preparing for the winter months. Runners who may have missed the Oct. 15 date can still show their support for Grove Christian Outreach by participating in the 2022 Grover Trotter 10K Virtual Run.
“Going into the winter months is different this year than any year we have seen in the past,” said Executive Director of Grove Christian Outreach Center Katie Patrick. “The rising food costs and increases in the costs of fuel for life-sustaining utilities are causing even greater strain on already struggling families. We are tremendously grateful for the generosity of our race participants, individual donors and sponsors who are stepping up to meet the call.”
