RICHMOND — William & Mary men’s basketball junior Ben Wight was honored as a preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, the league announced on Wednesday.

Wight was one of 17 players selected and one of seven named to the honorable mention list. Hofstra’s Aaron Estrada was the preseason CAA Player of the Year after taking home the award last season.

Wight led the Tribe in both scoring (11.6) and rebounding (5.5) last season. He finished his sophomore season with the sixth-best field goal % in school history at 61.6%. In the CAA, Wight ranked third in field goal %, sixth in offensive rebounding, 13th in rebounding and 19th in scoring

The 6-9 forward, who added 20 pounds of muscle in the off-season, scored in double figures in 24 games last season and recorded four double-doubles, including a pair of 20-point, 10-rebound double-doubles in CAA play. He tallied a career-high 21 points in road games at Drexel and Delaware in January.

Towson was the unanimous selection as the preseason favorite to win the CAA by the league coaches. Hofstra was No. 2 followed by Delaware, Charleston, UNCW, Northeastern and Drexel. The Tribe came in eighth in the preseason standings, while Stony Brook, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, Elon and Hampton rounded out the poll.

The Tribe opens the 2022-23 campaign with a men’s and women’s doubleheader on Monday, Nov. 7 with both teams facing Navy. The women’s game starts at 5 p.m. with the men to follow at 7:30 p.m. inside Kaplan Arena.
