YORKTOWN — York-Poquoson Sherriff’s Office (YPSO) announced that 29-year-old Anna Elizabeth Raines and 37-year-old Jesse Alan Gunn have both been charged with homicide after the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s report revealed more insight into the July death of their 2-year-old daughter.
According to YPSO, officers responded to the 100 block of Aberfeldy Way On July 7 to a call of an infant that was not breathing. Shortly after arrival, medics determined that the child was deceased. The child’s parents were charged with felony child neglect.
The Chief Medical Examiner’s report revealed the cause of death as “acute combined fentanyl and xylazine overdose in addition to nicotine exposure; laboratory evidence of SARS-COVID-19 Infection.” After YPSO received the report, the charges were upgraded to homicide.
Anna Elizabeth Raines and Jesse Alan Gunn were served warrants for homicide on Oct. 13 at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
