WILLIAMSBURG — Busch Gardens Williamsburg has plans to open a new water slide at Water Country USA in the Summer of 2023.
The new attraction — “Riptide Race” — will not only will it be the waterpark’s tenth waterslide, but it will also be Virginia’s first dueling pipeline, according to Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
“Riptide Race is an adrenaline-pumping water slide race that pits teams against each other in a splash to the finish line. Riders challenge friends and family members to see which team feels the rush of victory. Speeding through each turn in a down-to-the-wire finish, this fast-paced, high-speed adventure is one that guests will want to experience again and again,” Busch Gardens Williamsburg said in a press release.
With a height requirement of 42 inches, the new slide is meant to be a family-friendly attraction.
Riptide Race will feature a 54-foot tower and 520 feet of slide. The slide has two lanes with low walls in between so both groups can see each other when racing down the slide on two-person rafts.
Riptide Race will be joining DarKoaster, an all-indoor straddle coaster, on the list of new attractions coming to Busch Gardens Williamsburg in 2023. Prior to the official opening for both rides, members will receive exclusive ride access and be among the first to ride both new attractions in 2023, it said.
Additional details about Riptide Race, including an opening date, will be shared in the coming months.
According to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Water Country USA will open for the 2023 season on Saturday, May 13.
