YORKTOWN — Uncle B’s Pizza Shop held a grand reopening Friday as previous owner Brian Betts returns to make the New York-style pizza that has become a staple of the community.
Betts uses the recipes that the original owner, who started the restaurant in 1982, brought down from Syracuse, cooked in traditional brick ovens.
The pizza is cooked directly on the brick, allowing for a crispy crust and lowering the amount of grease and oil needed. The dough is made fresh in-house daily, as is the secret recipe spicy sauce. The restaurant also cooks and spices its own beef sausage, priding itself on only using fresh ingredients.
“We’ve never changed any of the style, recipes, preparation, or anything — we just try to keep it as authentic as possible,” Betts said.
Betts is the third owner of the restaurant, purchasing it for the first time in 2001. He had sold the restaurant in 2018 to new owners who closed the business in 2021. When news reached Betts, he knew he had to bring the shop back for the residents of York County.
Betts closed his brick-and-mortar collectible toys and comics shop, Uncle B’s Toys and Collectables, which inspired one of the new logos for the restaurant — an image of a stick figure spotlighted against the sky.
“The young lady who helped me with all the designs is a York County graduate of 2022. She’s my niece’s best friend and a great, great artist,” Betts said. “So I talked to her about a couple of my ideas and wanting to do something that incorporated the old logo, but could also encompass my love of toys and comics.”
The Pizza Shop is open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and offers deliveries through services like GrubHub, Door Dash, Uber Eats, and Slice. The shop is located in the Washington Square Shopping Center. For more information on the menu check out The Pizza Shop website.
