NEW KENT — Bridges of Change will host a Masquerade Ball inspired by the Queen of Hearts to help raise funds for the shelter on Sept. 24.
Bridges of Change is a nonprofit that provides free emergency shelter and wrap-around services to victims of domestic violence for the counties of New Kent, Charles City, King and Queen, and King William, and the town of West Point.
This is the second masquerade ball that the organization has hosted, the first before COVID-19. At the time, Bridges of Change had planned on holding the event on a yearly basis.
“We thought maybe it was the right time to do it. People have been inside for a long time. This would be the opportunity to get dressed up and come out and have fun, listen to a fabulous band, have some good food, meet up with friends, and just dance and have a good time. All while raising funds for the shelter,” Karen Mortensen, Board Member and co-founder of Bridges of Change, said.
The event takes place Saturday, Sept. 24, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Colonial Downs in New Kent. The event is for people 21 and older and party masks are only to be worn on the fourth floor. Premiere Band will provide music for the event.
Tickets are $75, cover food and a drink, and can be purchased via Venmo or PayPal links on the organization’s website. Sponsorships are also available for any organization that wishes to support the shelter.
