RICHMOND — William & Mary men’s soccer senior Diba Nwegbo was named the Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Nwegbo tallied five points on two goals and an assist during the opening week of the season. It marked his first career player of the week award. Nwegbo was an All-CAA second team selection last season and earned a spot on the Preseason All-CAA team this season.

In the season opener, Nwegbo recorded his first career brace, scoring twice in the second half to help the Tribe rally from goal deficits and tie George Washington, 2-2. He scored in the 63rd minute to draw the Green and Gold even at one, before his tap in with less than seven minutes left drew the game to two apiece.

On Sunday in the Tribe’s home opener, Nwegbo recorded an assist on the Tribe’s first goal of the game in the seventh minute, finding classmate Nathan Messer.

After the opening weekend, Nwegbo leads the CAA in both goals (2) and points (5).

Nwegbo and the Tribe return to action when they open CAA play on the road at Drexel on Saturday, Sept. 3. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FloFC.
