YORKTOWN — Life with Pigs Farm Animal Sanctuary took a day trip to Yorktown Beach with its 3-year-old cow, Maisie, last week where she stopped to pose for photos with officers from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
“She was so excited, almost as excited as the four police officers from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Department that came to meet her,” said Ryan Phillips, founder of Life with Pigs, of the Aug. 14 trip. “She really loved the experience.”
Life with Pigs is a Williamsburg-based nonprofit animal sanctuary that takes in animals in need and gives them a second chance. When the animals are taken into the sanctuary they are given a permanent home.
The local non-profit has taken in a wide range of animals including cows, chickens, turkeys, sheep, pigs, geese, and dogs.
The organization’s community outreach involves bringing animals to public places so that people can interact with them.
Life with Pigs states that they often bring people in contact with animals that are seen as food animals to help them realize that they deserve the right to live as happily as dogs or cats do.
