CAA Announces 2022-23 Men’s Basketball Conference Schedule

(Tribe Athletics)

RICHMOND — The Colonial Athletic Association announced the 2022-23 men’s basketball conference schedule for the 2022-23 season on Tuesday.

Teams will play an 18-game conference schedule against all 12 league foes that features six repeat opponents, three home-only opponents and three away-only opponents, marking the first time since 2012-13 that the league has not played a full double round-robin schedule. In total, each team will play nine home games and nine road games.

League games will be played on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays throughout January and February with the addition of a five-game schedule on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and six contests on Monday, February 13.

The league accommodated regional rivalries with input from the institutions throughout the process for the selection of repeat opponents, which were announced in July. All conference games will be available nationally on either FloHoops or CBS Sports Network with some contests on various regional sports networks on the East Coast. Television information and game times will be announced at a later date.

The Tribe opens the league schedule on the road at Drexel on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31. W&M returns home for three-straight after the road opener, hosting Northeastern (Jan. 5), Hofstra (Jan. 7) and Hampton (Jan. 11) at Kaplan Arena.

W&M’s CAA road slate includes trips to UNCW (Jan. 14), Charleston (Jan. 16), Delaware (Jan. 19), Towson (Jan. 28), Hampton (Feb. 2), Elon (Feb. 11), Stony Brook (Feb. 16), Northeastern (Feb. 18). The Tribe home schedule features games with NC A&T (Jan. 21), Stony Brook (Jan. 26), UNCW (Feb. 4), Towson (Feb. 13), Elon (Feb. 23) and Monmouth (Feb. 25).

All 13 teams will qualify for the 2023 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship to be played March 3-7 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.

W&M returns two starters in leading scorer Ben Wight (11.6 points per game in 2021-22) and CAA All-Rookie Team point guard Tyler Rice from last season. The Green and Gold welcomed a group of 10 newcomers for 2022-23, including five transfers in graduate students Anders Nelson (St. Thomas) and Chris Mullins (Rice), junior Noah Collier (Pittsburgh) and sophomores Matteus Case (Providence) andGabe Dorsey (Vanderbilt).

The Tribe released its nonconference schedule in July and opens the season at home against Navy on Monday, Nov. 7. Season tickets go on sale by visiting TribeAthletics.com/Tickets or calling the W&M Ticket Office at (757) 221-3340.
