RICHMOND —The Colonial Athletic Association announced the 2022-23 women’s basketball conference schedule for the 2022-23 season on Tuesday.
Teams will play an 18-game conference slate against all 12 league foes that features six repeat opponents, three home-only opponents and three away-only opponents. It will be the first time since the 2012-13 season that the league has not played a full double round-robin schedule. In total, each team will play nine home games and nine road games.
League games will be played on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays throughout the winter before concluding the final week of the regular season with six games on Saturday, March 4.
The league accommodated regional rivalries with input from the institutions throughout the process for the selection of repeat opponents, which were announced in July. All conference games will be available nationally on FloHoops, with some contests on various regional sports networks on the East Coast.
The Tribe opens the league schedule on the road at Stony Brook and Northeastern on Dec. 30 and Jan. 1, respectively. The Green and Gold’s first home CAA contest come on Sunday, Jan. 8, when it plays host to Charleston.
W&M’s CAA road slate includes trips to Towson (Jan. 13), Charleston (Jan. 22), Hampton (Feb. 3), Elon (Feb. 10), NC A&T (Feb. 12), Drexel (Feb. 26) and Monmouth (March 2). The Tribe home schedule features games with Drexel (Jan. 15), Hampton (Jan. 19), UNCW (Jan. 27), Delaware (Jan. 29), Monmouth (Feb. 5), Towson (Feb. 17), Elon (Feb. 24) and Hofstra (March 4).
All 13 teams will qualify for the 2023 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship presented by Primis, to be played March 8-12 at SECU Arena in Towson, Md. on the campus of Towson University.
In its first season under new head coach Erin Dickerson Davis, the Tribe returns four starters and a pair of All-CAA guards in graduate students Riley Casey and Sydney Wagner. Both players averaged better than 14.5 points per game last season and earned All-CAA Third Team honors. Rising sophomores Dani McTeer and Ruthie Montella earned CAA All-Rookie team distinction last season, while McTeer was selected as the state rookie of the year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.
The Tribe released its nonconference schedule in July and opens the season at home against Navy on Monday, Nov. 7. Season tickets go on sale by visiting TribeAthletics.com/Tickets or calling the W&M Ticket Office at (757) 221-3340.
