Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in James City County

UPDATE (August 10, 2:15): Virginia State Police (VSP) stated that, “Upon further investigation of the fatal crash on Interstate 64 at the 225-mile marker, it was found that the driver of the 2012 Honda Accord, Carlos Travis Cutler, was traveling at a high rate of speed. Cutler was cut off by a vehicle that entered the left lane from the median, causing Cutler to veer off the roadway and strike a tree in the embankment. Cutler was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Cutler died upon impact.”

JAMES CITY COUNTY — Virginia State Police (VSP) are currently investigating a fatal single-vehicle accident in James City County that occurred Wednesday morning.

State police were dispatched at approximately 7:16 a.m. to a single-vehicle crash involving a 2012 Honda Accord on Interstate 64, westbound at the 225.6 mile marker on the James City County/New Kent line.

The male driver — the only occupant of the vehicle — was found deceased at the scene. The driver was killed upon impact, police said.

According to VSP, preliminary investigations reveal that the driver ran off the roadway, drove up the embankment and into the tree line. 

Troopers are still in the process of notifying the driver’s next of kin before they release more information about the investigation.
