WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary sophomore Pyper Friedman continues to be a fixture in the USA Field Hockey scene. After playing for the U.S. U-21 National Team in 2022, Friedman was recently named to the 2023 U-21 and Development Squad Selection Camp.

In June, Friedman played for the U-21 U.S. Women’s National Team in the Uniphar 5-Nations Tournament in Dublin, Ireland. A month later, she was selected to compete in the 2022 Senior Nexus Championship (NXC) by the USA Field Hockey at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center.

The U-21 and Development Squad Selection Camp will take place in December 2022 or January 2023, with specific timing and location to be confirmed. At this Selection Camp, athletes will be evaluated to be named to the 2023 U-21 and Development Squad.

Friedman enjoyed a standout freshman season for W&M in 2021. She started all 16 games in the midfield on her way to earning CAA All-Rookie Team honors. Friedman was named the CAA Rookie of the Week after scoring the decisive shootout goal in a win over Hofstra on Oct. 1, before tallying her first collegiate tally in a 4-3 win over Northeastern. She finished her freshman season with five points on two goals and an assist.

The Tribe will play a pair of scrimmages to start the 2022 season on Aug. 14 against a Co-Ed Squad at 1 p.m. and by hosting Liberty at 5 p.m. on Aug. 19. W&M opens the regular season at Busch Field against in-state rival Old Dominion on Aug. 26 at 5 p.m.
