WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary head women’s basketball coach Erin Dickerson Davis announced the Tribe’s 2022 nonconference schedule on Tuesday. The slate features six home games, including a marquee contest with Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Virginia on Dec. 7, and eight total tilts against foes from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Tribe kicks off the season at home against Navy on Monday, Nov. 7. The Tribe and Mids meet for the third-straight season and 16th time overall. It marks the Tribe’s first opener at home since 2018.
W&M hits the road for three straight, all against in-state and former Colonial Athletic Association rivals. The Tribe heads to VCU on Nov. 11, Old Dominion on Nov. 15 and George Mason on Nov. 21. W&M and VCU meet for the first time in three seasons, while the Tribe squares off the Patriots for the third consecutive year. The Tribe and Monarch have met every season dating back to 1991-92.
Following its three-game road swing, the Green and Gold returns to Kaplan Arena for five in a row. W&M hosts Army to close out the month of November on the 27th. The Tribe has won all four previous meetings with West Point.
W&M welcomes in-state rival Richmond on Dec. 1, before hosting Coppin State on Dec. 4. It will mark the 116th all-time meeting between W&M and UR, the Tribe’s most played rivalry. The teams square off for the ninth-straight season. The Tribe and Coppin State meet for the fifth time overall and second-straight season.
The Tribe’s hosts an ACC opponent for the first time since 2010 when Virginia travels to Williamsburg on Dec. 7. The Cavaliers will play inside Kaplan Arena for the first time since the 1999-2000 campaign.
The Green and Gold wraps up its home non-conference slate when it welcomes James Madison on Dec. 11. The Tribe and Dukes will meet for the first time in 30 years as nonconference opponents after JMU joined the Sun Belt Conference on July 1.
W&M closes out the nonconference portion of its schedule on the road at Longwood (Dec. 18) and Norfolk State (Dec. 21). The Tribe and Lancers meet for the first time since 2014 when W&M picked up a 90-55 win in Williamsburg. W&M and NSU square off for the eight-straight season, and the Tribe has won four in a row against the Spartans.
Last week, the CAA announced home and away opponents for each team in the league. W&M’s six repeat opponents which it will play both home and away are Charleston, Drexel, Elon, Hampton, Monmouth and Towson. The Tribe’s three home-only foes are Delaware, Hofstra and UNCW, while its three road opponents are North Carolina A&T, Northeastern and Stony Brook.
