WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg Fire and Police departments responded to a call of a possible hand grenade in the 200 block of Monticello Avenue at 9:08 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, that was later determined to be a rubber toy.

The suspicious device was found in the parking lot of Midtown Row — on the Earth Fare side. Upon seeing the device, public safety officials evacuated the surrounding businesses and called for assistance from the Newport News Bomb Squad, according to a City of Williamsburg press release.

The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) also responded to the scene.
