RICHMOND — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) are asking Commonwealth residents to respond to a pair of surveys seeking input on travel preferences and opinions.

Results of the surveys will help officials and planners determine where and how to make transportation investments for improvements, including bridges and roads, cycling, walking and other transit projects.

Randomly selected residents may receive requests for the following surveys via mail, and any information provided will be confidential.

The National Household Travel Survey

The National Household Travel Survey is conducted every five to seven years by the Federal Highway Administration to collect data about trends in personal and household travel.

Respondents receive access to a secure website and will be asked to answer questions regarding their household, vehicles and daily travel.

The survey takes approximately 15 minutes, and respondents who complete the survey will receive a $10 check. Depending on the responses provided, follow up questions may be asked with additional compensation.

A $2 bill attached to the letter is an initial thank you.

The National Household Travel Survey began in January and will run until January 2023. To learn more about the National Household Travel Survey, visit nhts.ornl.gov. Contact Ipsos Research at 888-521-2520 with questions.

VTrans Biennial Transportation Survey

The Virginia Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment, in partnership with WBA Research, is conducting a survey to support the Virginia Transportation Plan (VTrans).

VTrans guides the development of transportation goals and objectives and the selection of transportation projects.

Respondents use a unique six-character password to access a secure website where they can complete the 20-minute survey. Those who complete the survey will receive a $10 e-gift card from WBA Research.

Those who prefer to answer the survey over the phone may call 833-397-4141 to schedule an interview.

The VTrans Biennial Transportation Survey is scheduled to begin July 8 and run until October. To learn more, visit vtrans.org/vision/opinion-survey or for answers to frequently asked questions, call WBA Research toll-free at 833-397-4141.
