WILLIAMSBURG — Lafayette High School Principal Daniel Miani, Ed.D. has been named the Virginia Association of Secondary Principals 2022 Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia.
Dr. Miani was selected from among hundreds of principals across Virginia’s more than 130 school divisions.
“By leading with integrity, building strong relationships and putting students and instruction first, he has created a student-focused school climate at Lafayette High School in which more students succeed,” said Olwen Herron, Ed.D., superintendent of Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools.
“Dr. Miani is forward-thinking, takes initiative, and is a decisive problem solver. During the pandemic, he was the first school principal in the division to bring his most challenged students and at-risk seniors back into the building for instructional support,” Herron said.
Dr. Miani has served as principal of Lafayette High School for the last four years and brought strong instructional leadership from his experience serving as the school division’s Math Instructional Coordinator to his role as principal.
His leadership extends beyond the boundaries of Lafayette High by participating in division improvement initiatives such as the Capital Improvement Committee and the 1:1 Leadership Technology Working Group.
Outside of WJCC Schools, Dr. Miani is vice-chair of the Bay Rivers District, a member of the College of William & Mary School-University Research Network program and also served as a member of the Return to Play and Continuity of Learning Committees.
Principals are typically nominated by their peers or division superintendents. A VASSP Principals Awards Committee reviews the nominations, and principals selected for consideration of the award are interviewed by a panel of principals.
