GLOUCESTER — One person was pronounced dead on the scene after Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Abingdon Volunteer Fire & Rescue responded to a residential fire call this morning in Hayes.
The victim has been identified as 44-yr-old Christine Marie Vanvarick.
Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office Communications received a call about a fire in the 33000 block of Maple Street at approximately 5:55 a.m. this morning.
According to a statement from Gloucester County Sheriff’s office, “Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an unresponsive victim inside the dwelling. The victim was brought outside and pronounced deceased at the scene. The fire is currently under control and law enforcement has secured the scene.”
GSCO’s Criminal Investigations Division responded and is coordinating with arson investigators from the Virginia State Police to conduct a source and cause investigation, as well as a death investigation, according to police.
Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office said no further information will be released at this time as this incident remains under active investigation.
