Memorial Day Closures Around the Historic Triangle

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Memorial Day is observed Monday, May 30, marking the unofficial start to summer across the region. Here is how local offices and services are impacted by the federal holiday.

James City County offices, facilities, services, libraries and courts will observe the following schedule for the Memorial Day holiday:

County Offices:
Closed Monday, May 30.

James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center:
Closed Monday, May 30.

Parks:
All County parks are open year-round.

Park Stores and Guest Services Offices:
Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Little Creek Reservoir Park, James City County Marina and Freedom Park office/stores are open Monday, May 30.

Convenience Centers:
Tewning Road, Jolly Pond Road and Toano are closed Monday, May 30.

Garbage Transfer Station:
Closed Monday, May 30.

Curbside Recycling:
One day delay beginning with Monday, May 30. Monday’s recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday, etc.

Libraries:
Closed Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30.

Courts:
Closed Monday, May 30.

York County Offices Closed

The annual York County Memorial Day Ceremony begins at 12 p.m. on Monday, May 30, at the War Memorial located on the grounds of York Hall (301 Main St.). The ceremony honoring the men and women who gave all in defense of our nation features the Fifes and Drums of York Town, VFW Post 824 Color Guard, wreath-layings, and keynote speaker. This ceremony is open to the public and is sponsored by the York County Historical Committee. For more information about the ceremony, please call York County Parks and Recreation at 757-890-3500.

In observance of the holiday, York County offices and courts will be closed.

Garbage collections are not affected by the holiday, however, recycling is delayed one day.

City Of Williamsburg Memorial Day Holiday Closings, Schedule Changes 

City of Williamsburg offices will be closed Monday, May 30, 2022 in observance of Memorial Day. This includes all offices in the Municipal Building on Lafayette Street. 

Quarterpath Recreation Center will be closed Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30. Waller Mill Park will follow normal operating hours, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Garbage will be collected on its regular schedule Monday and Tuesday. Recycling collection will be delayed by one day; Monday’s recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, and Tuesday’s recycling will be picked up on Wednesday. For water emergencies after hours, weekends, and holidays, please call 757-220-2331. More information can be found at williamsburgva.gov/publicworks. 

Need to pay a City bill when offices are closed? A convenient 24-hour bill payment dropbox is located at the front of the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St., for City transactions, and payments can be made online. Dropbox payments made on Monday, May 30, will not be posted until Tuesday, May 31. 

Virginia ABC Stores Will Remain Open Until 6 p.m. on Memorial Day

All Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) stores will open at their normal hours and remain open until 6 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.

A searchable list of Virginia ABC’s 395 stores—including brands and quantities of spirits available at each location—can be found at www.abc.virginia.gov. Virginia ABC encourages those consuming alcoholic beverages to sip responsibly and never drink and drive.
