JAMES CITY COUNTY — A crash on Interstate 64 (I-64) ended with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
In the morning hours of Tuesday, April 19, Virginia State Police (VSP) reported to mile marker 227 on I-64 in James City County following a vehicle crash.
According to VSP, the crash involved a single commercial vehicle. The driver, 35-year-old Jamagne Ross Fife of Richmond, was trapped inside a 2015 Hino/conventional flatbed truck, which was carrying pallets of wine. He was then transported to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center Main Hospital in Richmond via medflight, suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigations show that Fife ran the vehicle off of the roadway to avoid hitting a deer. He overcorrected and overturned the truck into a ditch.
Fife was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
VSP reports that charges are pending at this time.
Initially, all eastbound lanes around where the crash occurred were closed but reopened at around 8:30 a.m.
