Trains, Pizza, Tortillas, and More: News Briefs (April 15, 2022)

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Here are some important news and notes in brief from in and around the Historic Triangle.

Kids Run Trains in York County

On Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24, York County Public Library will host Kids Run Trains. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, children will have the opportunity to work with model railroad enthusiast club, Kids Run Trains, to operate model trains. The event will take place at Tabb Library, located at 100 Long Green Blvd. in Yorktown. For more information, please visit the event’s page on Facebook.

Highway Pizza to Open Soon on Richmond Road

A new pizza spot is opening in Williamsburg. Highway Pizza will soon open in the Patriot Plaza shopping center at 3044 Richmond Rd. The establishment will take over the location of the former Cicis Pizza. According to its Facebook, Highway Pizza is currently hiring for bartenders, kitchen staff and waiters and waitresses. California Tortilla Coming to Midtown Row

California Tortilla is opening a new location in Midtown Row. The Mexican restaurant is known for its fresh burritos, tacos, fajitas and quesadillas in a “casual, fun atmosphere,” according to its website. This will be the second California Tortilla to open in Williamsburg, following a previous location in New Town. An opening date in Midtown Row has not yet been announced.

James City County Parks and Recreation Holds Pop-Up Hiring Sessions

James City County (JCC) Parks and Recreation is hiring for various summer positions. JCC Parks and Recreation is currently holding pop-in hiring sessions for part-time summer jobs. Positions that are open are Assistant Recreation Supervisors, Recreation Leaders, Therapeutic Recreation Leaders and Instructors. The hiring session will take place on Tuesday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Recreation Services Office, 5340 Palmer Ln.

James City County to Host Summer Camp Fair

On Saturday, April 23, James City County will host a Summer Camp Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. More than 25 representatives from various summer activities and camps will be on hand to answer questions. Additionally, there will be activities including snakes from Busch Gardens Williamsburg and a lamb from Virginia Sustainable Living Farm. Registration is free and the first 200 guests will be eligible to receive special swag bags.
