GLOUCESTER — The Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a two-vehicle crash in Gloucester County that resulted in one fatality.

On Monday, April 4 at approximately 10:05 a.m., VSP was called to investigate a two-vehicle crash on Route 17 and Fiddlers Green Road.

According to VSP, the driver of a 2015 Mercedes Benz, Joseph R. Jackson of Gloucester, was traveling northbound on Route 17. Robert William Plummer, of Gloucester, was driving southbound in a 2012 Toyota Scion.

As Jackson entered the intersection of Route 17 and Fiddlers Green Road, Plummer attempted to make a left turn onto Main Street and collided with the Mercedes Benz, pushing the Toyota into a ditch.

81-year-old Plummer suffered major life threatening injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Norfolk Sentara Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Jackson suffered non-life threatening injuries.

VSP said that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the incident. It is currently unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor.
