YORK COUNTY– A 3-year-old child was taken to Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital around 3 a.m. today, March 23, after sustaining a non-life-threatening gun shot wound.
The incident occurred in an apartment located in the 7000 block of George Washington Memorial Highway. When YPSO deputies arrived at the apartment to investigate, a firearm was located.
According to Shelley Ward, the public information officer for the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office (YPSO), the York County Emergency Communications Center received a call from the hospital after a family member brought the child into the facility.
Ward said that deputies do not believe that there is an immediate threat to the community nor was this a random act of violence.
WYDaily will update this story when YPSO releases more information to the public.
